Alloa is a small town in Clackmannanshire, Central Scotland. Siutuated six miles east of Stirling, this ancient burgh rests on the north bank of the River Forth, with the Ochil Hills providing a glorious backdrop to the historic, 14th century Alloa Tower and the recently regenerated industrial architecture that comprises a large portion of the local urban landscape. A thriving port and industrial centre throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the area has since fallen into decline with the loss of many traditional industries, exacerbated by the closure of boat and railway links to the town. Rail services are not set to be reintroduced to Alloa until 2007, meaning learning to drive is a necessity for locals! Alloa's driving schools thrive as a result, supplying a healthy flow of candidates to the nearby driving test centres in Falkirk, Stirling, Crieff and Bathgate.
