Liskeard is a town of approximately 20,000 inhabitants, located in the county of Cornwall. The town is an historic market town, and still holds markets to this day. The town lies 14 miles to the west of the Tamar river, and is also situated on the Great Western Main Line between London Paddington and Penzance. The town is also served by the Looe Valley line, which is popular with tourists as well as being a practical link for locals. The town became prosperous during the boom of tin mining in the Cornwall region, though now relies on tourism due to the mining decline seen across the UK in the 20th century. The nearest theory test centre to Liskeard is Plymouth, which is approximately 15 miles away, and takes 25 minutes by rail. The nearest practical test centres are located in Launceston, Bodmin and Plymouth. Bodmin is closest, however certain instructors may have a preference as to which centre they use.
