Newcastle-upon-Tyne is a large city in the North East of England. As the name implies, the city lies on the River Tyne. Newcastle-upon-Tyne has a population of approximately 260,000 inhabitants. The city was founded by the roman emperor Hadrian, whose wall can still be seen in some sections of the town. Once the Romans left the city, Newcastle became an important part of the Kingdom of Northumbria, when it was known as Monkchester. Newcastle was once an important coal mining city, however with the decline of them mining industry, the many of the towns population found themselves unemployed, causing major decline in the city. In recent times, however, the city has bounced back, attracting high profile companies and undergoing a revival in the centre of the town. Newcastle is now a cosmopolitan city with plenty of attractions. There is also a very popular university in the city. Newcastle has both a theory and a practical test centre. The theory centre is located in the centre of the city, on Collingwood Street, a short distance from Newcastle Central station. The practical centre is located in nearby Elswick, on the Newcastle Business Park, about a mile from the city centre.
