Warwick is an historic market town in the county of Warwickshire, with a population of approximately 25,000 inhabitants. The town lies upon the River Avon. The town was founded on the banks of the Avon in 914 AD, when strategic defences against Viking’s were built across Mercia. The name Warwick means “dwellings by the weir�. The town later became an important administrative town for the new county of Warwickshire. The city later became walled, and was garrisoned against the Royalists during the English Civil War. Remains of the walls can still be seen; the east and west gatehouses still stand today. The town is mainly a service town, with a university near by, as well as a number of shops and amenities. The town has no driving theory test centre, however there are two nearby. Stratford-upon-Avon and Coventry are both approximately 10 miles from Warwick. Stratford-upon-Avon is a little more convenient thanks to a rail connection; the journey takes approximately 20 minutes. The town does have a practical test centre, located on Budbrooke Road.
