Bodmin is located at the heart of Cornwall. Its name is thought to derive from the old Cornish words \'bod\', meaning \"dwelling\", and \'menegh\' for \"monks\", on account of the 6th century priory, founded by St Petroc to the west of the infamous Bodmin Moor. The church still stands as the largest in Cornwall, having remained unchanged since the 15th century. It is also responsible for Bodmin\'s alternative name of Petrockstow. Historically fascinating and naturally beautiful, this area of North Cornwall makes a great base for touring Britain\'s \'holiday county\'. It is renowned as the gateway to the Eden project, now nicknamed \"The Eighth Wonder of the World\". Bodmin Moor is notorious for its wild beauty, boasting burial chambers, standing stones, Cornish hedges, clapper bridges, cottages and farms all built from the town\'s own granite. The timeless landscape has given rise to countless ancient and modern legends. Bodmin\'s driving schools supply a healthy turnover of successful learner drivers to the DSA driving test centre on Bell Lane off Dennison Road in the town.
