Blandford Forum lies on the River Stour in Dorset. It has been a fording point since Anglo-Saxon times and developed into a significant market town in the 13th century, with its livestock market serving the dairy farms of nearby Blackmore Vale. The word \'forum\' is Latin for \'market\'; it was first recorded in association with Blandford in 1540. A weekly market continues to be held in the town\'s marketplace, remaining largely unchanged for over 200 years. Blandford suffered a devastating fire in 1731 which left much of the town in tatters. The reconstruction took over 30 years but resulted in some magnificent Georgian architecture that continues to attract admiring visitors today. Blandford\'s principal modern-day industry is brewing. It is home to the Badger Brewery which supplies beer and ale to pubs throughout the region. The nearest DSA driving test centre to Blandford can be found at the Government Buildings on Prince of Wales Road in Dorchester.
