Kings Lynn is a town of over 35,000 inhabitants, situated in the county of Norfolk. The town lies on the River Great Ouse, close to its mouth, where it flows into The Wash. The town was originally known as Bishops Lynn; however when King Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries, it was renamed to Kings Lynn. The town became prosperous in the 17th century through the export of corn, and at the time was one of the largest ports in the UK. The town later went into decline, and was only revived when the railways came to the town, making Kings Lynn into a London expansion town, and its population doubled. Today, the town is mainly associated with fishing, glass making, and small-scale engineering. The town has both a theory and a practical test centre. The theory test centre is located in the Mission Hall, on Ship Lane, half a kilometre from the railway station. The practical test centre is on Bergen Way, on the North Lynn industrial estate.
