Nantwich is a town of approximately 12,500 inhabitants, located in the county of Cheshire. The town�s origins go back to Roman times, when salt was used by the Roman garrisons in Stoke-on-Trent and Chester as both a condiment and a preservative. Salt was also used in the production of Cheshire Cheese and leather, which occurred on the Cheshire Plain around the town. Over time, the town has been burnt to the ground twice; by Norman raiders in 11th century, and later in 1583, when the Great Fire of Nantwich burnt for over 20 days. Nantwich also suffered from Welsh Marauders during the 13th century. Today the town is mainly a service town, with a number of residents commuting to the nearby towns of Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent. The nearest driving theory test centre to Nantwich is located in Stoke-on-Trent, approximately 15 mile from the town. The nearest practical test centre is just 4 miles away, in the town of Crewe.
