Salisbury is a cathedral city in the county of Wiltshire. The city has a population of almost 45,000 inhabitants. Salisbury is sometimes known as New Sarum, to distinguish it from Old Sarum; the site upon the original town of Salisbury once sat. The origins of Salisbury date to the Iron Age, and it was later logged in the Domesday Book as Salesberie. A cathedral was built in the 11th century. A new cathedral was later built, in the area of New Sarum; the site of modern Salisbury. This cathedral is home to one of Britain�s oldest surviving mechanical clocks, and also houses 4 of the best preserved copies of the Magna Carta. The town was granted a market charter in 1227 for a market to be held on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Even today, the market is held on those days. Salisbury has both a theory and a practical test centre. The theory test centre is situated on Brown Street, a kilometre from the railway station. The practical centre is located on Rougemont Close.
