Warminster is a town in the county of Wiltshire, with a population of approximately 20,000 inhabitants. The town was first settled in the Saxon period, though there are nearby remains of earlier settlements, such as an Iron Age hill fort at Battlebury Camp. The town became prosperous during the late Middle Ages with the growth of the wool trade. The prosperity of this era allowed the town to erect several magnificent structures, including the Minster Church of Saint Denys, which contains an organ originally destined for the then under construction Salisbury Cathedral. In the 1960s and 1970s, the town gained notoriety for a number of UFO sightings on Cley Hill; though many sceptics suggest that this is due to the proximity of Warminster Training Centre, which abuts Salisbury Plain, upon which are located several Royal Artillery ranges. Warminster has neither a theory nor a practical test centre. The closest theory test centre is located in Salisbury, 20 miles away, or a rail journey of 20-25 minutes. The nearest practical test centre is located approximately 10 miles away, in Trowbridge.
