Weston-super-Mare is a large seaside resort on the west coast of England, in the county of North Somerset. The town has a population of approximately 72,000 inhabitants. At the beginning of the 19th century, Weston-super-Mare was just a small village of 30 houses. The town grew with the Victorian seaside holiday craze, which saw the town’s long, sandy beach becoming very popular. When the railway came to the town, it brought thousands of workers from the Midlands as well as people from the nearby city of Bristol. During this time, Birnbeck Pier was built, which also saw thousands of holidaymakers arrive from South Wales. The pier is now derelict, though the railway is still very important to the town, which still sees large numbers of tourists annually. The Grand Pier, in the centre of the town, was built in 1904 by local traders, who wanted more tourists to visit their area. This pier still stands, and has a number of amusements along its length. The nearest driving theory test centre is located approximately 20 miles away, in Bristol, a 30 minute train journey. The town has a practical test centre, situated on Sunnyside Road.
